About the Author
William Merunka was born and raised in Jersey City NJ. Since an early age, he was always interesting in building stuff and putting things together. When playing as a kid, he could usually be found playing with Lego or other similiar building block sets. It was also common to find him helping his dad around the house or sitting on the couch watching home improvement shows with him.
As William got older, his interest in building stuff evolved and he grew a passion to solving problems for challenging situations. In college William was heavily involved with Alpha Sigma Phi and Alpha Phi Omega(APO). Through these organizations, William got to continuously develop his strong leadership skills and work habits. Through APO, William got to travel around the USA and help many families while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. His work included work on the local level, as well as spring break trips to West Virginia, South Carolina, and New Orleans.
After graduating Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering in 2006, William spent several months working for a land development engineering company in Maryland. When he relocated back to NJ, he started working for a residential construction and renovation company. Some of the tasks he was involved in includes: permitting, scheduling, construction oversight, purchasing, accounting, and dealing with client issues and warranty service requests. In this role, William learned how to work more efficiently and manage his time well. He also learned how to juggle many tasks at one time without negatively affecting the quality of work.
Williams’ goals are to become a great engineer that people can turn to in times of need, as well as go to for advice. William does not want to be just another guy in the office. He wants to be a leader who understands the client’s wants/needs and can develop quality designs to reach these objective while also positively affecting the environment. William is in the process of obtaining his professional license and will be completing the EIT exam in October 2010. Upon achieving his EIT certification, William will continuously work to develop his leadership and engineering skills. He will accomplish this by returning to school for his Master’s degree, as well as attending workshops and seminars on a regular basis. William also plans on continuing his service to Habitat for Humanity as well as other non-profit organizations.
